Levels of Processing (to audio, images, video):

Level Name Description
0 analog i.e. none
1 digitization a 2^n representation of an array, possibly multi-channel
2 ADC + calibration to de-embed digitization/capture hardware
3 filtering denoising/color/etc as an attempt to add missing (real) information or correct errors in source material
4 utility alteration e.g. to improve utility or legibility for machine or person
5 aesthetic alteration e.g. modified for artistic intent
