What is a City

Recent election, a lot of issues on the ballot regarding city services. I wondered what it is that a city provides. Here is a list that I think is fairly complete:

  • Water
  • Electricity
  • Roads/Parking/Airport
  • Public Transit/Sidewalks
  • Zoning/Commerce/Housing
  • Entertainment/Parks/Libraries/Etc
  • Safety and Law Enforcement
  • Health & Emergency Services/Hospitals
  • Environmental Protection
  • School/College/Universities
  • Telecom/Data
  • Trash/Waste Management/Cleaning

I don't think it is sufficient to have these services. There must be process for reflecting on and changing the system. Quite simply:

  • Elections/Political Process
